Cheetahs head coach Lawrence Buyachi has unveiled the squad set to compete in the upcoming 2024 Rugby Super Series, kicking off this weekend.

The squad boasts a blend of talent from Menengai Oilers, Nakuru RFC, Impala, and Egerton Wasps. Notable inclusions are Kenya Internationals Dennis Abukuse, Chrisant Ojwang, Beldad Ogeta, and Elkeans Musonye.

Cheetahs include U20 players

Alvin Khavoli, who showcased his prowess with Kenya U20 in the Barthes Cup, securing two tries on the path to victory, joins forces with his U20 teammate Philip Okeyo, both earning their places in the squad.

Experienced campaigner Sam Onsomu headlines the squad, supported by a contingent of Menengai Oilers players, led by captain Ibrahim Ayoo.

The likes of Chrispin Shitundo, Celestine Mboi, Desterious Ifedha, Eric Miheso, Samuel Were, Samuel Mwaura, Tyson Maina, Tony Oketch, and Clinton Juma also feature prominently.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

Nakuru RFC’s Amos Obae, who led his side this season, earns his spot alongside Emmanuel Mboya, Barry Opondo, Felix Odhiambo, Javan Okwaro, James Macharia, and more.

Quinto Ongo who helped Impala get a promotion back to the Kenya Cup has made the cut.  Timothy Okwemba, absent during the Kenya Cup campaign, finds himself among the reserves, adding depth to the squad.

The Rugby Super Series 2024 promises high-octane action, with four men’s teams and two women’s teams set to compete.

The men’s teams – Buffaloes, Cheetahs, Lions, and Rhinos – will represent Kenya Cup Clubs, while the women’s teams – Eagles and Jaguars – will feature members of the National Lionesses’ squad.

Following the round-robin matches, the top two teams will advance to the final, with the remaining two vying for the last two positions at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi.

The women’s fixtures will be staged in Nairobi, with winners determined by the aggregate score over two games. Each matchday will unfold at a single venue, maximizing the thrill for players and fans alike.
