Kenyan forward Odhiambo leads Uganda Rugby Championship try scorers list

Kenyan forward Andrew Odhiambo is the leading top try scorer in the Uganda Rugby Championship after match day nine.

Odhiambo who is a former Western Bulls rugby forward was signed by the Jinja Hippos in January 2023 and has had a productive season managing eight tries out of the 40 tries scored by his team in the 2024 URC.

Odhiambo scoops MVP

The forward captained the Jinja Hippos in their match-day nine fixture as they managed a 58-24 win over the Warriors and was named the man of the match.

Odhiambo was named the man of the match following his impressive performance in the match.

The top try scorers log has seen Odhiambo leading with eight tries above Amollo Michael and Michael Wokorach who ranked second and third with six tries each.

Heathens’ Joseph Oyet is ranked fourth after managing five tries out of the 46 for the club.

On the team’s tries count, Jinja Hippos are second on the log with 35 points holding a 40 tries streak below the table leaders Heathens who are ranked top with 38 points and a 46 tries streak.

Kobs Rugby and Pirates Rugby are ranked third and fourth leveling on 28 points and 28 tries each.

On the top point scorers log, a tough gap difference is witnessed as Odrua Robin is on top of the log with 101 points above Ivan Kirabo who is second with 90 points.

The third place in the ranking is taken by Yasin Wasswa with 85 points above Gift Wokorach who is fourth with 58 points.

Odhiambo National team call up

In 2021, he was among the 102 players that were called up to the National Team Kenya Simbas ahead of the Rugby Africa group stage matches which were slated for Nyayo Stadium.

He, however, did not make cut for the final squad.

Odhiambo is a backrower who represented Bulls in the KRU Championship, Kenya Cup and National 7s Circuit before moving to Uganda.
