The scholarship opportunity arose just months after Philimon enrolled as a form one student at Butula Boys School, where he spent less than a term showcasing his talent on the rugby field.

Philimon becomes the second student from Butula Boys School to earn a scholarship in the UK.  In 2023, Rayvonne Ambale, a product of the Kabras academy, seized a similar opportunity at Bryanston School.

Ambale’s journey to securing the scholarship was propelled by his outstanding performances, which initially earned him a rugby scholarship to Butula High School.

At the KSSSA 7s Nationals, Ambale displayed his prowess by averaging three tries per match, culminating in a remarkable total of 20 tries throughout the competition.

His exceptional scoring abilities earned him the top scorer award, accumulating an impressive 128 points, as well as the Most Valuable Player accolade.

Continuing his journey of excellence, Ambale shone brightly on his East African 7s debut, claiming the top try scorer award with eight tries and five conversions, totaling 50 points.

In 2023, Ambale played a pivotal role in Butula’s historic victory in the maiden 15s title, securing the MVP award in the 2023 National Schools Rugby 15s competition.

Ambale missed out on the 2023 East African Games, as he embarked on an exciting journey to the United Kingdom, facilitated by DBA Africa and former Kenya 7s coach Damian McGrath.
