Rongo University RFC emerged victorious over the table leaders Shamberere Institute with a score of 16-13 in the Women’s Kenya Cup match held at Rongo University grounds.

The event marked the first defeat of Shamberere RFC this season. After a long struggle, Rongo earned their three points from a drop goal by Sara Nafula, marking the only scores of the first half.

In the second half, Rongo RFC conceded a penalty, which was well taken by Shamberere’s Marion to draw the level. Another penalty increased Shamberere’s lead to 6-3, and Marvel was booked.

Rongo University responded with a try, but the conversion went wide, and they retook the lead with the scoresheet reading 8-6. The try was made by Esther Wanyonyi from the bench.

Shamberere conceded a penalty, and Rongo’s number eight, Naomi Chemtai, converted it successfully, widening the lead to 11-6. But it was short-lived as Shamberere scored a converted try to retake the lead.

In the last minute, Rongo RFC emerged victorious with a score of 16-13, thanks to a try from Rongo’s centre and skipper, Marvel Laura.
