After two rounds of the Challenger Series, Kenya 7s remain in contention for the overall title and are in a pole position to qualify for the promotion playoffs.

Despite accumulating 36 points, the same as Uruguay, Shujaa has dropped to second place following a third-place finish in the second event of the tournament held in Uruguay.

Tonga sit at 18 points, with Japan following closely behind at 15 points. Uganda hold the eighth position with eight points, followed by Georgia, Portugal, Papua Guinea, and Mexico.

The competition was been expanded to three rounds this year, with the top four placed men’s and women’s teams qualifying for the new promotion and relegation play-off competition at the HSBC SVNS 2024 Grand Final in Madrid.

The Challenger Series was introduced in February 2020 to boost the development of rugby sevens globally and provide a clear promotion pathway to reach the top level of global rugby sevens.

The 2024 edition began with a combined men’s and women’s event in Dubai in January, followed by the second round in Montevideo. Standalone women’s and men’s events will take place in Krakow, Poland, and Munich, Germany, respectively, on 18-19 May.
