Kenya lose to Georgia, placed bottom in Pool C after 2nd round in Challenger Series

Kenya 7s faced a tough challenge against Georgia in the second match of the Challenger Series event held at Estadio Charrúa in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Despite their best efforts, Shujaa struggled to find their footing, ultimately falling to a 17-0 defeat.

The match against Georgia came on the heels of a hard-fought victory against Portugal, where Shujaa had to wait until the last minute to secure a crucial try and clinch the win.

In the showdown against Georgia, Shujaa found themselves on the back foot early on. Georgia capitalized on their chances, with Nikoloz Rekhviashvili scoring the opening try within the first two minutes of the game. Although Sergi Chkhaidze missed the conversion attempt, Georgia extended their lead with a subsequent try by Archvadze, which was successfully converted.

Despite their best efforts, Shujaa struggled to mount a comeback. Davit Imnadze sealed Georgia’s victory with a final try in the 13th minute, securing a decisive 17-0 win over Shujaa.

The loss leaves Kenya’s sevens team with three points, placing them at the bottom of Pool A. Meanwhile, Portugal leads the pool with four points, alongside Tonga, who have also accumulated four points each.

Despite the setback, there remains hope for Shujaa to advance to the quarterfinals, as they can still qualify if they secure a win in their final match.

In other pool standings, Uganda lead Pool C with six points, having secured two wins against Germany and Papua Guinea. They have already secured a spot in the quarterfinals. Germany and Uruguay, are both on four points each.

Meanwhile, in Pool B, Hong Kong China sit at the top with six points, followed by Chile and Japan with four and three points, respectively.

Shujaa will have an opportunity to bounce back as they return to action for their final group stage match at 8:46 p.m. local time.
