Kenya Harlequin have appointed former Kenya Lionesses prop Everlyn Kalemera as the women’s coach.
Kalemera, who retired from the Kenya Lionesses after the 2023 Elgon Cup triumph holds a World Rugby 15s Level One Coaching Certificate, a World Rugby Level One Officiating Certificate, and accreditation in Rugby Ready, First Aid, and Concussion Management.
The announcement of Kalemera’s appointment was made on Thursday by Kenya Harlequin, expressing confidence in her ability to contribute valuable experience to the team.
The statement by Quins highlighted Kalamera’s decade-long commitment to rugby, including five years as a versatile utility prop with the national women’s Kenya Lioness 15s team.
“Evelyne Kalemera Joins Kenya Harlequin Football Club as The Women’s Rugby Coach, bringing a wealth of rugby expertise as a former Kenya International player. With a decade-long commitment, she spent 5 years as a versatile utility prop with the national women’s Kenya Lioness 15s team. Proficient in scrummaging, lineouts, and tackling, and renowned for her skills as a ball carrier, Evelyne actively contributes as a volunteer age-grade coach within the community rugby scene,” a statement by Quins announced.

Kalamera’s extensive rugby experience includes notable participation with the Kenya Lionesses in prestigious events such as the World Cup Repechage Qualifiers, Elgon Cup, World Cup Qualifiers, Rugby Africa Women’s Cup, and the World Rugby WXV III tournament.
She also significantly contributed to Mwamba Rugby Club’s success over eight years, securing victories in Kenya Cup triumphs during the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons.
