“Following consultation and guidance from the relevant ministry, it has been advised that we opt for a later date for the tournament. This recommendation stems from the ongoing end-of-term examination in schools and the diligent preparation for the Kenya Secondary Certificate of Education (KCSE)” read part of the letter.

The Scrummage reached out to the Union development officer Ronald Okoth for a comment and confirmed the event wont happen.

“We have been forced to cancel this year’s Prescott edition. The ministry has failed to give us the permission to hold the event. You know this being the third term you must get permission from the Ministry of education as they stipulated that there are functions to involve or being hosted in schools,” said Okoth.

He also noted that they had planned a better tournament than previous ones as this year’s would have seen the engagement of Talanta Hela, an initiative of the Ministry of sports as a way of developing talents.

“We had organized with Talanta Hela to come and scout for boys who would form a part of the national under-18 rugby team. Also on board were various universities who offer scholarships to talented rugby boys for their campus education.” added Okoth.

He said that they are contemplating finding a suitable date before schools close.  There were 10 schools which had qualified for the Prescott Cup nationals.
