Kenya 7s put an end to their losing streak in the World 7s Series by defeating Canada 28-14 in the Singapore 7s ninth place quarters.
Shujaa was determined to bounce back from their three consecutive losses on day one and both teams were in the relegation playoff zone, making it crucial for them to secure maximum points available to stay in the competition.
Canada took the lead in the second minute with Max Stewart’s try, which was converted to make it 7-0. However, Kenya quickly responded through George Ooro Angeyo’s try, followed by Anthony Omondi’s successful conversion to level the score at 7-7.
After the break, Brian Tanga showed some impressive footwork to beat his marker and score Kenya’s second try, which was converted by Omondi for a 14-7 lead.
Tanga then set up his club teammate Kevin Wekesa with a short pass, and he sprinted to score Kenya’s third try, making it 21-7 after the conversion.
Canada managed to pull one back with a converted try, but Anya’s successful conversion ensured Kenya’s victory. Kenya will now face their next opponent in the ninth place semis at 9:45 AM.
