Kenya 7s lost the Hong Kong 7s opener 29-5 to New Zealand in a Pool D match played at the Hong Kong Stadium on Friday.
All Blacks who had a strong track record against Kenya, dominated the game, scoring three tries in the first half to take a commanding 19-0 lead.
Leroy Carter and Dylan Collier scored the first two tries for New Zealand, taking advantage of an overload on the left and right side. Akuila Rokolisoa then added a converted try to stretch the lead further.
However, Kenya managed to pull one back before halftime, with Antony Omondi setting up the team’s captain, Nelson Oyoo, to score a try in the left corner, reducing the deficit to 19-5.
The second half started with New Zealand continuing to exert their dominance, and Cody Vai soon scored the fourth try to put the game beyond Kenya’s reach.
Rokolisoa then completed his brace, extending the lead to 29-5.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, with New Zealand taking on South Africa while Kenya face Ireland.
