MMUST have been relegated from the Kenya Cup after an 18-14 loss to Mwamba rugby Club in a match played at MMUST Grounds on Saturday.

This comes after only three seasons in the top tier, having been promoted in 2021 after a 21-12 victory over Mean Machine.

In the game, Makaka had hoped to secure their second win of the season and scored the opening try midway through the first half through Griffin Chao, which was converted by Eric Cantona for a 7-0 lead. However, MMUST were unable to add a penalty to their score.

Kulabu, who had been seeking their first win in five matches, responded with two tries and one conversion, taking a 12-7 lead at halftime.

Jadah Abdon then scored a try for MMUST, which was converted to put them back in the lead. However, Brian Kivasia’s penalty kick gave Kulabu a 15-14 lead, which he later widened with another penalty, resulting in a four-point lead.

Overall, the loss proved to be a significant blow for MMUST, who will now have to work hard to regain their place in the Kenya Cup.
