The nominees for the Sports Personality of the Year Awards have been announced, with the Kenya Simbas and Kabras RFC among the teams vying for the top honor.
The Kenya Simbas, the 15s national rugby team, impressed during the final matches of the Currie Cup, and finished second in the Rugby Africa tournament after losing the final match to Namibia, and featured in the Final Qualification Tournament for the World Cup.
Kabras RFC, on their part, bagged the Kenya Cup and Enterprise Cup trophies in 2022 and will be joined on the list by Menengai Oilers rugby team who had a successful season as well after winning National 7s Circuit and finishing second in Kenya Cup.
The Kenya Rugby U20 team, Chipu who finished third in the Rugby Africa Barthes Cup have also been included in list of teams chasing the award.

The Simbas, Oilers and Chipu join Coaches Gibson Weru and Dennis Mwanja and speedster Janet Okello who has also been nominated for the award.
In addition to these teams, other nominees include the National Council of Sports and Physical Education (NCPBA) handball team, and the 4x100m Africa relay and 4x400m Commonwealth relay teams in athletics, as well as Butali Sugar hockey team.
The 2022 Sports Personality of the Year gala Awards (SOYA) will be held on January 20, 2023 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi.
