KCB rugby relegate Mean Machine from Kenya Cup

KCB rugby defeated Mean Machine 49-5, effectively relegating them from the Kenya Cup in a match played at Uon Grounds.

After being tied on 14 points and having drawn in the regular season, Mean Machine and Catholic Monks’ final standing in the league table it to be determined by their respective point differentials.

Machine end the season with a point differential of -292, while Catholic Monks, who lost 26-12 to Nakuru in their final game of the season, finish with a point differential of -194.

KCB early exploits

The bankers were determined to return to winning form and put pressure on the leaders, Kabras RFC, who had a challenging match against Menengai Oilers at home.

KCB started strongly, with Isaac Njoroge scoring a try that was successfully converted for a 7-0 lead. Mean Machine responded with an unconverted try, but KCB quickly pulled ahead again with another seven-pointer. They continued to dominate, scoring tries through Martin Owila and captain Curtis Lilako to take a commanding 28-5 lead.

In the second half, KCB continued to extend their lead with a try from Jacob Ojee, which was converted by Darwin Mukidza, who maintained his 100% conversion rate from the first half. Owila added another try to his name, and the conversion put KCB ahead 42-5.

Peter Kilonzo then sealed KCB’s victory with a try, which was converted for a final score of 49-5. The win was a significant boost for KCB and put them in a strong position to challenge for the Kenya Cup title.
