Kisumu RFC began their  KRU Championship quest with a 15-11 win over Shamas Foundation in a match played at RFUEA Grounds.

The Brave Hearts headed to Nairobi seeking to avenge a defeat suffered during last season’s opener played in Kisumu and their new head coach Lawrence Buyachi was also keen to start off on a positive note.

Kisumu had a try that was converted by winger Philip Anyumba while Ham Namisi drilled in a penalty for Shamas for a 7-3 scoreline.

Washington Ochieng’s 26th minute penalty saw Kisumu lead 10-3.  The hosts would draw close when winger Elvis Ayua grabbed a try that cut the gap to two points in the 29th minute.

Kennedy Kitoi later scored an unconverted try that put Kisumu’s lead at 15-8.  Namisi  at the other end scored a penalty for Shamasat the stroke of halftime to move to 11 points and that was the final points of the match as the final half had no points.
