The Rugby World Cup Sevens 2022 Dream Team has been announced after the conclusion of the tournament held in South Africa’s Cape Town.
World Sevens Champions Fiji have three players included in the Dream Team, they include the Breakthrough player of the tournament winner Kaminieli Rasaka who bagged one try in the final, Joseva Talacolo who also scored in the final and Jerry Tuwai who has now bagged two Olympic Gold Medals and the World Cup title.
All Blacks 7s
Finalists and outgoing Champions New Zealand have two players in the team of the tournament. They are Ngarohi McGarvey-Black and Scott Curry.
Ireland who finished third to claim bronze have Terry Kennedy and Harry McNulty in the dream team. The two played a key role as the side went to write history.
For the first time since #RWC7s in 1993
has reached this massive achievement!
Editor’s pick:
- Follow the Scrummage Africa on Facebook
- Kenya 7s out of Rugby World Cup Sevens contention
- Koyonzo win National 7s Title
- Menengai Oilers centre dies
- Butula High School playmaker wins MVP
Fiji went to this tournament having missed out on the men’s Series title by four points and had lost in the Commonwealth Games final to South Africa.
The team put that right in Cape Town, however, to end Ben Gollings’ first season as coach on a high and come away with a third RWC Sevens title – and first of those won outside of Hong Kong.
Wales were dispatched 29-5 in the round of 16 on Friday before Fiji overcame Pacific Island rivals Samoa 21-10 in a bruising quarter-final the following evening.
A 38-14 defeat of Australia in the semi-finals set up a showpiece match against defending champions, New Zealand. Fiji ran in five tries through five different scorers in the final to topple the All Blacks Sevens 29-12.
