Uganda replaced at Africa Men’s 7s 2026 in Mauritius

Senegal have been confirmed as late replacements for Uganda at the upcoming Africa Men’s 7s 2026 following Uganda’s inability due to travel restrictions.

The announcement comes as Rugby Africa finalised preparations for the continental showpiece scheduled for June 20–21 at SPARC in Cascavelle, Mauritius.

Africa Men’s 7s confirmation

The hosts, Mauritius announced that Uganda will not be able to participate hence the changes which will see Senegal join the list. Organisers expressed appreciation to the Uganda Rugby Union, players, staff, and fans for their cooperation and understanding, while also looking forward to their return in future editions.

“Due to travel restrictions currently in place, Uganda will no longer be able to participate in the Mauritius 7s, the Official Africa Men’s Sevens 2026. As a result, Senegal will replace Uganda in the tournament. We extend our sincere thanks to the Uganda Rugby Union, its players, staff and supporters for their understanding and cooperation, and we look forward to welcoming them at a future edition of the tournament,” Mauritius announced.

The tournament forms part of celebrations marking 40 years of Rugby Africa and will feature 12 teams competing across three pools.

The revised pool draw now sees Pool B reshaped with Senegal taking Uganda’s place alongside Madagascar, Ghana, and Tunisia.

Defending champions South Africa head into the 2026 edition looking to retain their title after winning the 2025 crown with a 28–12 victory over Madagascar in the final held in Mauritius. Kenya, meanwhile, will be aiming to improve on their fourth-place finish last year after narrowly losing the third-place playoff to Zimbabwe.
