Kenya’s emerging women’s rugby side, the Cubs, have named their 12-player squad for the 2025 Safari 7s tournament set for 10th–12th October at Nyayo Stadium.
The squad, led by co-captains Maxine Abuga and Ann Njeri, reflects Kenya’s focus on nurturing new talent, with eight debutants earning their first call-up to the prestigious competition.
The debutants include Nelly Chikombe, Ann Akinyi, Gloria Matasio, Diana Mideva, Angel Salamba, Refa Ochando, Merisha Negesia, and Tracy Msungu.

They will feature alongside experienced players Maureen Chebet, Ann Namunyak, and the two captains Abuga and Njeri, who are expected to provide leadership and stability to the young side.
The Cubs will compete in the women’s category against top regional and international teams including Belgium, Kenya Lionesses, Shogun, Tunisia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Costa Blanca Barbarians, the defending champions who beat the Lionesses 24-10 in last year’s final.
Last year, the Kenya Cubs claimed fourth position after registering a 07-05 win over Uganda II in the 5th Place Final, and will be looking to build on that performance at this year’s edition.
