The Scrummage Katch 7s tournament kicked off as scheduled, with intense action witnessed right from the first whistle in the boys’ category at the Kakamega Showground.
Organizers were forced into a late venue change due to unavoidable circumstances, relocating the event to the iconic Forest Grounds—home of Kenya Cup champions Kabras Sugar RFC.

The change gave young players a golden opportunity to showcase their talent at a venue that has hosted the Kenya Cup final for the past three seasons.

Butere had a strong showing on day one, going unbeaten with two wins and a draw. They opened their campaign with a commanding 34-0 win over Banja from Nandi County.
In a tightly contested encounter, Otieno Oyoo’s Wanarungu held them to a 12-12 draw. Butere bounced back to close their day with a dominant 26-0 victory over Kakamega School A.
Koyonzo A started with a 12-12 stalemate against St Anthony before securing a 26-0 win over Otieno Oyoo. However, their unbeaten run came to an end with a 15-7 loss to Kakamega Barbarians in the final pool match.
The Barbarians, despite defeating Otieno Oyoo 27-5, could not maintain a perfect record after falling 10-5 to St Anthony. St Anthony wrapped up the day with one win, one draw, and a loss.
