MMUST Rugby Club put on a dominant display as they overpowered Zetech Oaks 46-9 in a thrilling encounter to qualify for the Kenya Cup.
The Makakas who missed the qualification last season have been forced to spend two seasons in the second tier and needed to make amends.
The game kicked off with MMUST setting the pace as Martin Masika scored the opening try. Zetech responded through their jersey 10, successfully converting a penalty to bring the score to 5-3.
However, MMUST quickly regained control, with lock crossing the try line. Flavian Otiyo managed one successful conversion, while another attempt sailed wide, bringing the score to 12-3 at halftime.
At the start of the second half, Zetech had a golden opportunity to narrow the gap with another penalty, but the kick from their jersey 10 missed the target.
MMUST capitalized on their momentum in the 51st minute when Musa Mugandi’s precise kick found Sudi, who maneuvered past defenders to score a beautiful try. Bryon Ogada successfully converted, extending the lead to 17-3.
Karanja, donning jersey 2, further solidified MMUST’s dominance with another try, though Ogada missed the conversion, making it 24-3.

Zetech fought back with another penalty conversion, reducing the deficit to 24-6. However, MMUST responded immediately with Mugandi weaving through the Zetech defense to touch down, though Ogada missed the extras, pushing the lead to 29-6.
Zetech managed one more penalty to make it 29-9, but MMUST showed no signs of slowing down. Masika stormed through the defense from the halfway line for another stunning try, though Ogada’s conversion attempt was unsuccessful, setting the scoreboard at 34-9.
Mugandi continued his brilliant performance, adding another try under the posts, and this time, Ogada made no mistake with the conversion, increasing MMUST’s lead.
Joshua Sudi then capped off the victory with one last try, though Ogada missed the conversion, sealing the final score at 46-9.
