JKUAT secure 6th win with victory over USIU; Daystar, Homeboyz pick convincing wins

JKUAT Cougars delivered a strong second-half performance to clinch a 34-16 victory over USIU in a KRU Championship Matchday 9 fixture held at the JKUAT University grounds on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

JKUAT opened the scoring with a penalty from Godfrey Namamba in the 13th minute. USIU quickly responded just a minute later, leveling the score at 3-3 with a penalty from Lenny Kiptoo.

In the 25th minute, Pal Kituyi scored the first try for USIU, but the conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving USIU ahead 8-3 at halftime.

The second half saw JKUAT regroup and come out strong. Shaddy Odhiambo scored a try, successfully converted by Davies Masinga. Indeche then added another unconverted try, extending JKUAT’s lead to 15-8 before USIU managed to score a penalty, narrowing the gap to 15-11 in favor of the Cougars.

JKUAT continued to dominate, adding more tries from Mike Makau and two from Shaddy Odhiambo, converted successfully by Davies Masinga. USIU managed one final try from Kituyi, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome. The match concluded with JKUAT Cougars triumphing 34-16.

In the other matches, Homeboyz Rugby dominated TUM Marines with a decisive 31-7 victory. Catholic Monks edged out MMUST Rugby Club with a narrow 13-12 victory. Daystar Falcons also had a strong showing, defeating Zetech Oaks 31-17.

Meanwhile, the Western Bulls faced off against Mean Machine in a hard-fought battle, but ultimately fell short with a score of 13-25.

Lastly, Mombasa RFC was awarded a walkover against UoE Trojans, concluding the week with a 28-0 victory without stepping onto the pitch.
