Kenya Cup side South Coast Pirates RFC have reached out to its loyal supporters and the wider community to address a financial challenge facing the club.
In a statement, the Pirates noted that they are the only team in the Kenya Cup that does not charge an entry fee for home games, resulting in no income generated from these matches as they have championed accessibility in rugby, believing that the sport should be open to everyone, regardless of their financial situation.
“SC Pirates wish to inform our supporters and the community that we do not generate income from our home games, as we are the only Kenya Cup team that doesn’t charge an entry fee. This is because we believe in making rugby accessible to everyone in our local community,” the statement read.
However, the club now finds itself in a critical financial situation and is appealing for voluntary contributions from fans to help sustain its operations.
“We humbly request our supporters to make a voluntary contribution in lieu of an admission fee. For context, other clubs charge an entry fee of KES 300. This is just a suggested contribution, and any amount is welcome. If some fans can contribute a bit more, we truly appreciate it. If less or even nothing, that’s absolutely fine too,” the statement continued.

Pirates also prioritize having a vibrant crowd of passionate fans cheering them on rather than limiting attendance based on financial capability.
“Our priority is having hundreds of fans cheering us on rather than a limited crowd who can pay. Thank you for your understanding and continued support of our team,” the statement concluded.
In light of this appeal, fans are encouraged to show their support through contributions via M-PESA, with the Till Number being 736543.
