Kisumu RFC to honour late Chairman Fidel Odinga in memorial match

The upcoming match between Kisumu RFC and South Coast Pirates slated for Mamboleo Grounds will serve as a memorial for the club’s late Chairman and Patron, Fidel Odinga.

The club has announced that the game, scheduled for this Saturday 11 January whenn Kenya Cup match resumes, will be dedicated to Odinga, who left an indelible mark on the team and whose legacy continues to shape the club.

Kisumu RFC statement

“It’s been exactly 10 years since we lost our beloved Chairman and Patron, Fidel ‘Obange’ Odinga,” Kisumu RFC stated in a tribute.

“His impact on Kisumu Rugby is still felt, and his legacy lives on. This weekend’s match will be dedicated to his honor. May he continue to rest in eternal peace,” the added.

Fidel Odinga, who was the son of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, passed away at the age of 41 in his Karen home.

His sudden death on January 4, 2015, shocked the rugby community. On the day of his burial, all Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) matches observed a moment of silence in his memory.
