Webuye 10s junior tournament
Khaoya emphasized that the aim of these junior categories is to provide a platform for young players to showcase their talents and develop their skills.
“We are using these categories to expose the young players, and it’s through these programs that we’ve uncovered many of the top talents from our region,” Khaoya told Scrummage Africa.
“The tournament will kick off with the age-grade festivals, where the kids will be provided with breakfast, lunch, and the chance to compete for trophies and certificates.”
The senior tournament will commence on Saturday, with over 15 teams already confirming their participation, including Webuye, Webuye Development, Bukembe, Bungoma, Samba, Kibingei, Nalondo, Mwangaza, Milo, Shinyalu, NYS Turbo, Lugulu, and Cherengany.
Khaoya also revealed exciting news regarding the tournament’s venue. For the first time in 15 years, the event will be held at Nzoia Rugby Grounds, thanks to a new partnership with Nzoia Sugar.

“The Nzoia Rugby Grounds are world-class, and we are still developing the venue to make it even better. It’s one of the best playing surfaces in the country, and we have facilities like sanitation and water on site,” Khaoya said.
Looking ahead, the chairman shared ambitious plans to further develop the grounds.
Hold Elgon cup
“Our goal is to eventually expand the capacity to hold over 2,000 people. This venue will help elevate the tournament and potentially allow us to host matches like Kenya vs Uganda. From here, you can see mount Elgon. It creates more value if you play it with the mountain in the background, it gives sense why it is called Elgon Cup.
“We’re very excited about the future and invite everyone to come and experience the new venue,” Khaoya added.
