Kenya 7s co-captain George Ooro has expressed his excitement about the team’s return to the World 7s Series, describing it as a “very good feeling.”
The Shujaa squad made their comeback to the series after a hard-fought victory over Germany in the relegation/promotion playoffs, following a strong second-place finish in the World Challenger Series three-legged tournament.
Kenya 7s return
It has been 499 days since Kenya 7s were relegated, but with just two days remaining until their return, Ooro emphasized that the team is well-prepared and ready for their pool opponents.
“It is so nice to be back, it is a very good feeling to be back at the Dubai 7s. We have prepared well and we are ready for our pool opponents. We have really wished for all these moments,” Ooro told World Rugby.
He also praised the unwavering support from the fans, acknowledging their vital role in keeping the team motivated.

“Our fans have always been behind us, even when we were in the Challenger Series and now we’re back in the SVNS. The fans give us that extra energy and motivation to play for them and for those who are back home watching,” he added.
Ooro and Samuel Asati were named the new co-captains for the opening two legs of the World SVNS Series in Dubai and Cape Town. Their elevation comes in the absence of Vincent Onyala and Tony Omondi, who previously captained the team during the Challenger Series, securing Kenya’s spot back in the World Series but are still awaiting new contracts.
The two co-captains will now lead the squad into the HSBC Series, taking over from former captain Nelson Oyoo. Kenya will begin their Dubai 7s campaign in Pool A, where they will face tough opposition from France, South Africa, and Australia as they aim to maintain their place among the best 12 teams in the world.
