Uganda 7s were crowned champions of the Africa Men’s 7s first leg after winning all six of their matches in the two-day event held at Labourdonnais Sports Grounds, Mauritius.
Tolbert Onyango’s coached side clinched a 31-12 victory over Madagascar in the final, boosting their chances of reclaiming the title they won in 2022.

With this win, Uganda bagged 20 points and now lead the Africa Men’s 7s table, putting them in pole position to secure a ticket to the 2025 World Challenger Series.

Madagascar, the surprise package of the weekend, finished second with 18 points. They lost to Uganda in the final after enjoying an impressive five-match unbeaten run, often coming from behind to secure victories including a 7-5 over Kenya 7s.

South Africa finished third, collecting 16 points following a 35-7 win over Burkina Faso, who earned 14 points for their performance.
Zimbabwe secured 12 points with a 28-19 victory over Kenya Morans, who finished in sixth place with 10 points. Ivory Coast earned 8 points, Mauritius 6, Zambia 4, Nigeria 3, Tunisia 2, and Algeria 1 point, completing the standings.
The teams will now shift their focus to the second leg set for next weekend, where they will continue to battle for title and a chance to qualify for the 2025 World Challenger Series.
