Menengai Oilers have confirmed the departure of their most capped player Brian Ndirangu who is also the longest serving member of the team.
Ndirangu has played 108 games for Menengai Oilers and was also the first Menengai Oilers Captain to lead a young team that had been formed in 2016 and has also become a key player for the team and the National 15s team, the Simbas.
Speaking from his new base in Vancouver, Canada, Ndirangu thanked his mother club for what he terms as “seven years of growth.”
“At the club we have learnt that you do not have to be the biggest or the fastest, you just have to have the will and the determination and discipline to learn and everything you set your eyes on is achievable, I have had seven incredible years with one team, one Coach and incredible teammates.”Ndirangu commented
He also appreciated the atmosphere at the club stating that not only will he miss playing for the team but also his relationship with the technical Bench, the fans and his teammates.
“I have also had an amazing working and having a personal relationship with Coach Gibson Weru and his staff and to the fans, I will definitely miss you and the atmosphere at the Refinery during home games and the derby, to my teammates who have been incredible to me over the years, I will always carry you in my heart.” He exclaimed
Menengai Oilers Head Coach Gibson Weru has also appreciated the time he enjoyed with Ndirangu and is pleased about his move to Canada in sought of greener pastures.
“Brian is a player who served us well and when he informed me of the opportunity he has, I was happy for him and this is an opportunity for him to develop as a player and to also grow as a man,” Stated Weru.
He has also expressed mixed reaction to the move as he states that he was fond of having Ndirangu since when he played in the Nationwide league.
“We have mixed reactions, we will miss his services as an experienced player, we have developed him from the Nationwide league all the way to being a consistent player for the Simbas,” he expressed
“We wish him all the best and we are sure he will come back at some point a better player,” he added.
Ndirangu is expected to link up with his teammates at Westshore Rugby in Victoria, Canada.
