Kenya 7s wrapped up day one of the Africa Men’s 7s/Olympic qualifiers on a triumphant note, delivering a convincing victory 38-12 over Zambia in their final pool match played on Saturday.

Shujaa, eager to conclude day one on a high note, kicked off their campaign impressively. Samuel Asati broke through the opposition’s defence to score a try, which Tony Omondi expertly converted, granting Kenya a 7-0 lead.

Vincent Onyala continued Kenya’s impressive start by skillfully manoeuvring through Zambia’s defence, securing a try at the left corner. This extended Kenya’s lead to 12-0 and ensured the co-captain had scored in all matches on Saturday.

Zambia fought back, with their winger eluding Asati to score a try at the right corner.

Kenya 7s responded by widening their lead. Diminutive scrum-half Asati executed a perfect dummy move, leaving the Zambian defence puzzled as he scored another try, pushing Kenya ahead at 17-5.

Nygel Amaitsa contributed to Kenya’s dominant first-half performance, extending the scoreline to 24-5. Amaitsa showcased his agility by outsmarting his marker and crossing over for the fourth try of the half.

Patrick Odongo then landed the fifth try before Zambia managed to pull back with a beautiful try, capitalizing on a well-placed kick.

However, Kenya 7s sealed their victory with a final try from Beldad Ogeta.

With this impressive win and nine points on top of Pool B, Kenya 7s now shift their focus to the cup quarterfinals scheduled for Sunday.
