Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) chairman Sasha Mutai has addressed the concerns regarding the lack of allocation of the Division II winner’s prize in the 2023 National Sevens Circuit.
The University of Eldoret (UOE Trojans) had raised objections after learning that they would not receive a cash reward for being the overall winners in Division Two.

In an interview with Scrummage Africa, Mutai clarified the matter and offered hope for a better future for the teams involved.
“I talked to them (UOE) on MondaY. There was no overall prize money for division two, it was only 50,000 per leg, and they understand,” he said.
“We work with a budget, and the prize money that was available was given to the clubs, and everything was broken down and shared.”
KRU future intentions
He emphasized that the prize issue is something they are considering for future seasons.
“Unfortunately, this year there was no prize money; next year, we shall have an increment of 10%, we shall consider because we have to work within the limited budget,” he said.
One promising aspect of Mutai’s statements is his commitment to addressing the situation ahead of the 2024 season.
In Division One, KCB was crowned the champions.
