KCB Rugby extended their fine start to the season and stretched their unbeaten run to six matches after a 33-22 win over Blak Blad at the Blad Bin.

The bankers scored three tries in the first half and a further two in the second half to Blak Blad’s four tries.

The Ruaraka based side had the first chance of the game after a penalty allowed them to find the touchline deep in Blak Blad territory. Ensuing pressure allowing Jacob Ojee to strike from close range, Elvis Namusasi added the extra twos for a 7-0 lead early on.

KCB would continue piling pressure on the students, benefitting moments later as Elvis Olukusi capitalised on an extra man on the outside to sell a dummy before cruising into open space to score near the uprights, Namusasi accurate from the boot once again for a 14-0 lead.

KCB would score their third after Blak Blad failed to clear their lines, forcing a turnover before Olukusi barged over for his second to make matters 21-0.

The home team would then score their first through Steve Biko after Sikutwa failed to secure a grabber kick to race the rest seven or so metres to go over the whitewash. Kelvin Gathu would miss the chance to make it seven, his attempt at splitting the uprights unsuccessful. Gathu would miss two further attempts to cut the deficit from the penalty spot to leave matters at 21-5 at halftime in favour of the visitors.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

Blak Blad came firing hard in the second stanza, scoring in the opening motions as scrumhalf took a quick tap before clearing more than forty meters on the run to offload to a hurtling Gathu just outside the 22 for Blad’s second of the game. He would fail to convert his try to leave it at 21-10.

Blad would score yet another as momentum now seemed to swing in their favour, this time Archadius Khwesa stepping in then out to beat his defender before hustling his way over the whitewash to cut the deficit to just six points, scores now 21-15 as the extra twos continued to remain elusive.

Austin Sikutwa would then take an intercept inside their 22 before racing the whole way to score between the uprights, killing what had been a resurgent play by the home team, and pinning the Bankers deep in their own territory for extended periods.

Sikutwa would pounce on another loose ball after the students failed to secure a high ball, quickly clearing more than 70 meters of grass to make it 35-15.

A spirited Blad would claw back one in the dying moments of the game to make it 35-22 at the final whistle.
