Impala RFC survive early scare to defeat Kisumu RFC

Impala RFC were forced to dig deep to see off a determined Kisumu RFC side 17-12 in a Kenya Cup match played at Impala Grounds.

The hosts drew first blood through a penalty goal for an early 3-0 lead but Kisumu RFC responded with a converted try minutes later to lead 7-3.

Impala RFC were on the scoreboard again with a penalty goal moments later to cut the margin to 6-7. The visitors managed to grab their second try of the day but this time around the conversion attempt went wide.

Impala RFC would then claw back to draw level at the halftime break thanks to the boot of Quinto Ongo, who was pristine with his kicking, landing two penalty goals to tie the scores at 12-12.

In the second half, Impala’s defence proved too difficult for Kisumu RFC to crack. Quinto Ongo scored a try for Impala RFC early on in the second half to give his side a 17-12 lead. Ongo would have extended the hosts’ lead but his penalty goal attempt later on hit the uprights. Impala RFC would then hold on to win 17-12.
