The World Svns Series has introduced a new format for the Cape Town 7s, making the tournament more competitive and challenging.
In this revamped structure, the competition will feature four pools of three teams each, replacing the previous setup of three pools with four teams.

According to World Rugby, the winners of each pool will advance directly to the semi-finals.
“A new competition format will see the 12 teams in four pools of three teams, with the pool winners advancing directly to the semi-finals and a chance to reach the medal podium in Cape Town,” World Rugby confirmed in a statement.
The pools were determined based on team rankings at the conclusion of the Dubai tournament.

The men’s pools are as follows: Pool A – Fiji, Great Britain, Uruguay; Pool B – Spain, Australia, Kenya; Pool C – Argentina, South Africa, Ireland; Pool D – New Zealand, France, USA.
The women’s pools are: Pool A – Australia, Canada, Brazil; Pool B – New Zealand, Japan, China; Pool C – France, Ireland, Spain; Pool D – Great Britain, USA, Fiji.
The 2025 HSBC Sevens Series will span seven events across seven months in iconic global locations. The season includes six rounds in Dubai, Cape Town, Perth, Vancouver, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

The top eight men’s and women’s teams will then compete in the HSBC SVNS World Championship in Los Angeles, hosted at Dignity Health Sports Park, the venue for the LA 2028 Olympic rugby sevens.
