Rugby Development Officer Sebastian Makalek Ochieng will be part of the KCB Rugby technical bench for the 2024/25 season, Scrummage Africa has learnt that
The former Maseno School teacher will join the Strength and Conditioning department, which also includes former Kenya 7s captain Andrew Amonde, who serves in this role with the National Team.
Sebastian Makalek moves
Makalek’s move to KCB Rugby comes almost a year after he attained his World Rugby Level II certification. He has also served as a coach for various teams and schools.
The former MMUST rugby player has coached at Vihiga High School and Vihiga Granites. He later moved to Maseno School as an assistant and served as a coach for the Maseno Ladies’ team, as well as working with the Maseno University men’s team.
He now joins a technical bench led by head coach Oliver Mang’eni, with Amonde, forwards coach Dennis Mwanja, and backs coach Darwin Mukidza also forming part of the team.

These changes follow the departure of head coach Curtis Olago, assistant and backs coach Mark Mshila, strength and conditioning coach Mike Shamiah, and team manager Philip Wamae.
The new coaching staff is expected to help turn around KCB Rugby’s fortunes after three challenging seasons in which the team missed out on major trophies.
