KCB Rugby defeated Kenya Harlequin 39-16 in a pre-season friendly that served as the Elgon Cup curtain-raiser, played Saturday afternoon at RFUEA.
KCB entered the match following a dominant 74-5 win over Strathmore Leos, securing fifth place in the recent Impala Floodlit tournament. In contrast, Kenya Harlequin had a quieter pre-season, with only one match against Homeboyz under their belt.
KCB Rugby trail early on
Harlequin started strongly, with Mike Mugo crossing over for the opening try in the fifth minute. Allan Odiyo added a penalty to extend their lead to 8-0.
KCB responded in the 12th minute as Floyd Wabwire scored a try, successfully converted to narrow the gap to 8-7. Wabwire continued to showcase his strength, crossing over again 12 minutes later for KCB’s second try.

Manaseh Oduor then added a third try, with Festus Shiasi’s conversion putting KCB ahead 17-8. Fly-half Emmanuel Opondo capped off the first-half scoring with a try, securing a 22-8 lead.
Harlequin fought back, with Odiyo slotting a penalty before Leeon Nyang crossed over for a try, reducing the deficit to 22-16.
In the second half, KCB pulled away as Elvis Olukusi scored an easy try, and Bob Muhati added another, pushing the lead to 32-16. Isaac Njoroge capped the scoring with a converted try after winning an aerial contest, sealing KCB’s 39-16 victory.
