Impala Boks secured their place in the Impala Floodlit semifinals with a 26-16 victory over KCA in the varsity tournament held at RFUEA Grounds on Saturday.
Impala took an early lead when Edgar Obino forced his way over the try line after receiving a pass from a scrum. Eric Muthama added the conversion before extending the lead with a penalty, making it 10-0.
KCA response
KCA responded with three points through a penalty by Joseph Andewa. However, Impala added seven more points after Dalton Mwangi scored from a scrum, with Muthama converting. The referee blew for halftime with the score at 17-3 in favour of Impala.

In the second half, Impala earned a penalty, which Muthama successfully converted to extend the lead. KCA responded with a try, but Impala added another unconverted try to make it 26-8. KCA finished strong, scoring eight more points, but it wasn’t enough to overturn the deficit.
USIU eliminate
In the late kick-off, Rift Varsities secured a 32-15 win over USIU, scoring four tries and two conversions.
USIU opened the scoring through a penalty by Faustine Waswa, but Rift Varsities quickly responded with a try to take a narrow lead.
USIU retook the lead when full-back Bason Omondi darted through the defence after a quick tap off a penalty. However, Rift Varsities’ Eric Ogutu equalized with a penalty, sending both teams into the break level.
Rift Varsities controlled the second half, scoring three tries, including a brace from Antony Owino and another from Glacious Owino off a loose ball kick. USIU managed a converted try but couldn’t keep up with Rift Varsities, who sealed the win with a final converted try.
With the win, Rift Varsities advance to the Impala Floodlit semifinals.
