Nondies got off to a winning start in the 2024 Floodlit tournament after they edged Strathmore Leos 24-8 at Impala Rugby Grounds.
The Rangers were quick off the blocks as they landed their first try when lock Brian Omondi wrestled to get over the line in the early minutes of the game. Timothy Lugalia added the extras to give his side a 7-0 lead.
Strathmore Leos’ efforts to cross over were unsuccessful as Nondies defence stood firm. They would be rewarded with a penalty goal minutes later through Arnold Nyakego to take the scores to 7-3.
In the second half, Nondies picked up from where they left as they pumped three more tries with Strathmore Leos’ only managing one.

The Red Lions went over first through Brian Marube. Conversion attempt was unsuccessful. Elisha Koronya would then extend Nondies lead to 17-3 after he burned over. Lugalia converted Koronya’s try to give his side a 19-3 lead.
Strathmore pulled one back when substitute Sullivan Japasso dived in the corner to cut the deficit to 19-8.
In the dying minutes, Nondies would seal the win when halfback Ian Mumbwani touched down for his side. Conversion attempt was unsuccessful as Nondies ran away with a 24-8 victory.
