Lady Cranes, Kenya Lionesses, and Barbarians storm to big wins at Safari 7s day 1

Defending champions Uganda Lady Cranes, alongside Kenya Lionesses and Costa Blanca Barbarians, recorded emphatic wins in the opening round of the women’s category of the 2024 Safari 7s at Machakos Stadium.

The Kenya Lionesses started strong winning 43-0 against Uganda 2 in the second match of the category. Quick hands setting up Freshia Oduor, who cut inside and outpaced her marker to score on the first try.

Just four minutes into the game, Oduor showcased her speed again, touching down for her second try to give the Lionesses a 10-0 lead.

Despite being temporarily reduced to six players due to a yellow card, Faith Livoi extended the lead with a try, making it 17-0. Livoi almost added a second, but her try was ruled out for a forward pass.

In the second half, Oduor completed her hat trick, and Diana Kemunto added another try. Edith Nariaka and Sharon Auma finished the scoring spree, sealing a 43-0 victory.

In the first match of the day, defending champions Uganda Lady Cranes enjoyed a solid start, scoring four tries to defeat Shogun 20-5 in their Safari 7s debut.

Costa Blanca Barbarians were equally impressive, thrashing Kenya Cubs 36-0. The Spaniards took control early, with Denise scoring the opener, followed by Matina Sarah to double the lead at 12-0.

Denise returned to the scoresheet before halftime, making it 19-0. In the second half, Costa Blanca added three more tries to complete a dominant 36-0 victory.
