DBA Africa have announced the appointment of Philip Wamae as the new Head of Academies and Tournament Director.
Wamae takes over the role having served as Kenya 15s and 7s national rugby player. Wamae is also a former Team Manager at KCB Rugby and the Kenya U20 team.
Philip Wamae’s role at DBA
In his new position, Wamae will lead the development of age-grade rugby across DBA Africa’s academies and tournaments.
His primary focus will be enhancing rugby programs in Nairobi, while expanding DBA’s reach through satellite academies and partnerships in the Rift Valley, Western, and Coastal regions.
Wamae is highly regarded for his leadership and dedication to grassroots rugby development. As Team Manager for the Kenya U20 team, Wamae played a key role in guiding the squad through preparations for tournaments like the Barthes Cup and the U20 World Rugby Trophy.
He has also coached Nairobi Lightning, a U15 DBA representative side competing in the annual Futures Cup.
“I’m excited to take on this role with DBA Africa,” said Wamae. “I look forward to working with academies across the country and helping nurture the next generation of rugby talent in Kenya. This is a great opportunity to ensure that young players receive the best resources, coaching, and development opportunities.”

This announcement follows DBA Africa’s recent partnership with Japanese corporate Wazi-Wazi, which is set to further accelerate rugby development in Kenya.
The partnership will provide essential resources to support the Nairobi-based academy, building on DBA’s existing programs and tournaments.
DBA Africa’s academy programs continue to thrive, with training sessions held every Sunday at Kenton College in Nairobi. These academies form a vital part of DBA’s mission to provide structured training environments for young athletes and promote rugby as a tool for personal growth and community development.
