Kenya 7s and Menengai Oilers forward John Okoth has successfully undergone surgery after sustaining an injury during the National 7s Circuit at Kabeberi 7s.

Menengai Oilers confirmed the news, announcing that Okoth’s surgery went well, and they wished him a speedy recovery.

John Okoth’s injury

Okoth, who made his return to the National 7s Circuit, had an impressive performance at Kabeberi 7s day 1 before suffering a tibia injury. Tibia fracture surgery take three to six months as he recovers from the injury.

“Wishing our Johnnie ‘Diego’ Okoth a quick recovery after successful surgery. Godspeed, Diego,” the Oilers posted on their social media platforms.

Okoth’s injury adds to an increasing list of sidelined Kenya 7s players, including Brian Tanga (wrist), Lamec Ambetsa (ankle), and Dennis Abukuse. Kenya 7s captain Vincent Onyala also missed the Driftwood 7s, reportedly due to injury.

With the Safari 7s set to kick off in a month, many of these injured players are likely to miss the event, which will serve as a build-up to the HSBC SVNS Series.
