Kenya Harlequin are the Kakamega Ingo 7s Champions after downing KCB in a thrilling final at the Kakamega Showground.

Quins who featured in the final against Kabras last weekend scored three tries to KCB ‘s two to win the game which had to be decided in extra time.

Main Cup final

KCB began the final on a high, Elvis Olukusi beating his markers on the outside before making easy work of Amon Wamalwa to score the bankers’ first try.

KCB would score again through Olukusi who received an offload from Trevor Odawa who had broken the line but was tackled meters shy of the try line.

Albert Olela would pull one back for Quins, Amon Wamalwa unselfishly offloading in the try box after making a 60 meter run enroute for a 12-7 lead for the Thika road based side.

Olela would miss a clear chance to put Quins in the lead but lost control of the ball after selling a dummy barely two meters out of the kill zone.

Continued pressure from Quins would force an error from the Bankers before Brian Ratila would score in the corner to pull matters level as the game went into extra time.

Lucky Dewald would be the hero of the day, rounding congested part of the field to score the golden points as Quins emerged victorious.

3rd place playoffs

Hosts Kabras were looking for redemption after a disappointing loss in the main Cup Semis, but had to see off a stubborn Nakuru.

It would be Wanyore who drew fast blood, Javan Otieno producing an outrageous step to score near the uprights.

Jackson Siketa then hit back for the hosts, exchanging passes with Jackton Osoo for Kabras’ first try.  Nakuru would then miss another chance to extend their lead, the referee calling for a held up as Wanyore failed to strike from five meters out.

Jackton Osoo would get on the scoreboard after being teed up by Osore before William Mwanji struck for the homeside’s third try.

Mwanji would be on the end of an assist to release Brian Mutua on the outside, Mutua having to beat the attention of two defenders to run in Kabras’ fourth try for a 22-7 full time score.

5th place

Catholic Monks finished fifth in the Kakamega Ingo 7s after overcoming MMUST in the final.

Monks struck twice in the first half for a 14-5 lead at halftime. Monks were the quicker team upon resumption, scoring their twice before MMUST could master a try of their own late in the second stanza for a 26-10 full time score.
