Kenya Lionesses claimed the top spot in Pool A of the World 7s Series repechage after defeating Argentina 19-17 in Monaco on Saturday.
The Lionesses finished atop the pool with six points, while Argentina secured second place with four points. Heading into the match, both teams had already secured spots in the quarterfinals by winning their respective openers.
This pool originally included four teams but was reduced following the withdrawal of Papua New Guinea.
In their crucial match against Argentina, Kenya Lionesses started strong with Janet Okello scoring a try early on, converted by Freshia Oduor, giving them a 7-0 lead.
Argentina responded with tries from Marianela Escalante and Sofia Gonzalez, with Gonzalez converting to tie the game at 7-7. Judith Okumu then scored an unconverted try to put the Lionesses back in front.

Argentina’s Maria Brigido Chamorro leveled the scores at 12-12 before capitalizing on a handling error by Kenya Lionesses’ fly-half to take a 17-12 lead.
However, Kenya Lionesses fought back determinedly, with Freshia Oduor scoring again and Grace Adhiambo converting to secure a 19-17 victory. The Lionesses showcased strong defensive play to hold on to their lead and clinch the win.
The result sees Kenya Lionesses advancing to the quarterfinals of the tournament, demonstrating their competitive edge and resilience in the World 7s Series repechage event.
