Daystar Falcons coach Caleb Bosire has revealed areas that that cost them in the semi-final match against South Coast Pirates which saw them miss the Kenya Cup qualification.

Speaking to Scrummage Africa, Daystar Falcons head coach, Bosire outlined his appreciation to the team and for a great 2023/24 season, highlighting the hard match playing against South Coast Pirates.

“It’s been a journey for us just like last season. Unfortunately, South Coast were the better side and managed to take the day, looking at the season they played well to be able to reach the semi-finals, during the weekend game, they wanted it more and capitalized on our mistakes to score quick tries,” stated Bosire.

Falling on defence, Bosire highlighted the disadvantage of his players that cost them the semi-finals match in Diani.

“There are a few areas which didn’t work out for us, lineouts didn’t work because of our decision making, and also the choices that we made in the latter stage of the game affected us in a big way, combined with mistakes, that’s why we lost,” concluded Bosire on team play.

The team which had taken advantage of the Kenyan speedster Patrick Odongo, had a tough time creating gaps and Coach Bosire defended the speedster and stated it was his bad day in the office.

“On Odongo’s performance we should understand, rugby is a game of days, one day you may wake up and play well, the other day you don’t, so our match at Diani saw the South Coast marking him well and he was not able to break the defence,” explained Bosire.

Showing appreciation for Odongo’s return to the side, he stated that if the team had created opportunities in the first half, the outcome could have been different.

“On the team’s side, we didn’t create enough opportunities in the first half to be able to get those chances for him to score, but it’s good to have him back to the team,” Bosire concluded.

Daystar Falcons will face off against MMUST who lost to Impala Rugby for the third-place finals.
