Rongo University ladies Rugby “Stoners ladies” are the western KUSA rugby champions after dominating the round robin diiscipline snatching victory from defending champions Maseno to qualify for KUSA nationals scheduled for 24th and 25th of February 2024 at Pwani University.
Game one: Rongo vs Kabianga
Rongo played their first game against Kabianga University where they snatched a 35-0 win in the start of their dominance.
Miriam Trizah took a run making the first line break to put Rongo on board with a 7-0 win after a successful conversion by Bancy Wangari before Pauline Kininte added the second to extend their lead 14-00 before the second half.
Miriam Trizah added her second try to extend the lead 21-00 after a successful conversion by Bancy Wangari before Pauline Kininte added her brace to tally the scores 28-00 after Wangari took another successful conversion.
Bancy Wangari added her own try which was converted by Bridget Kaluki to sum up the play 35-00 after the final whistle.
Game two: Rongo University Vs Maseno University
Rongo University snatched an hard fought 19-07 win against the defending champions Maseno University.
In the first half, Rongo University were first to send a statement after the Captain Marvel Laura, made the first line break to tally the scores 5-0 after missed conversion before Maseno took the lead with a converted try to sum the scores 07-05 before half time.
The second half proved tense before Miriam Trizah scored her third try of the day to tally the scores 12-07 after a successful conversion by Bancy Wangari.
Rongo University Captain Marvel Laura paunced Maseno’s loose ball to score the final try to tally the board 19-07.
Miriam Trizah emerged as the top try scorer of the tournament after managing three tries in the duo game.
