South Coast Pirates edged MMUST 17-8 at the Seacrest Grounds Diani to win their fifth match in the KRU Championship.
It is a statement win for the Coastal side coming against the Makakas who were enjoying a fine start in the second tier.
Pirates landed the opener through Gilbert Ochieng who made the first try of the game which was successfully converted by Kelly Akengo to tally the board 7-3 before halftime.
Late in the half, MMUST were penalized and it played advantage for the hosts as they pocketed the three points thanks to Kelly Akengo’s golden feet as he changed the scores 10-3.
In the second half, Joseph Musyoki increased the Pirates’ tallt as he secured a try which boosted their lead 17-3 after a successful conversion by Kelly Akengo. MMUST grabbed a late try which ended up being a consolation.
In other Matches, UoE Trojans snatched a 22-5 win over guests Mombasa as Impala also won their clash against Mean Machine piling on the students’ woes.
