After the demise of their captain, Bernadette Olesia Chogo, Northern Suburbs which takes part in the women’s Kenya Cup has now settled on a new captain.
In a club statement seen by The Scrummage Africa, Ernest Gabriella Sarai will be the new captain and is charged with leading the team to a good finish in their new season. “The newest sheriff in town! Meet our new captain.” Read the club’s statement.
Sarai started her rugby career way back in high school at Huruma Girls High School in 2016 before moving to Shamas Rugby Foundation. She played for Shamas Rugby before moving to the suburbs ladies in 2021.

“I started playing rugby in high school, Huruma Girls High School back in 2016 and joined Shamas Rugby till 2021 when I officially joined Suburbs.” Said Sarai.
Sarai previously played as a winger before transitioning to being the forward that she is currently. “I started off as a winger and progressed to being a forward, lock, that’s where I fit in the most,” added Sarai.
Atieno Awuor will be the one assisting Sarai in leading their fellow players. “Meet the vice-captain on duty,” Said part of the club statement.
Awuor joined suburbs from Kenyatta University’s Blad Babes in 2022. Atieno Awuor doubles up as a winger and outside center and will be leading the team together with Gabriella Sarai.
