Kenya Harlequins secured a 40-10 bonus point win against Mwamba RFC to pick their third successive Kenya Cup win at RFUEA grounds.
Mwamba scored a try early on through Brian Mutugi for a 5-0 lead before the hosts responded with a try minutes later when lock Mike Onsando went over. Cornelius Mokoro converted the try for a 7-5 lead.
Mwamba with an intent to win their first match of the season managed to score another try and it was Mike Okello who touched down although the try went unconverted. Quins added another try moments later through Mokoro to take the scores to 14-10. Mwamba RFC conceded another try as Kenya Harlequins scored their third try of the match and it was Mokoro again who dot down for a 19-10 score.
Quins dominated the proceedings the better part of the half and the resultant pressure on the visitors saw the hosts go over for their fourth try through captain Herman Humwa. The try was succesfully converted by Cornelius Mokoro to take the scores to 26-10 just before the break.
In the second stanza, Kenya Harlequins were dealt a blow when Herman Humwa was sent to the bin but Mwamba would fail to capitalize on the one man advantage as the Quins defence kept them at bay. Mwamba RFC remained scoreless in the second half.
Kenya Harlequins on the other hand added two more converted tries to win the game 40-10. Richel Wangila and Mokoro went over with Amon Wamalwa managing the conversions. This is the third consecutive defeat the men in black have been inflicted thus far this season and they’re left with a lot to ponder as the Kenya Cup season heads for Christmas break.
