Menengai Oilers Gibson Weru is delighted to have Denis Abukuse back in his squad ahead of their clash against Strathmore in the Kenya Cup round three.
Weru mentioned that Abukuse has stepped in to replace Johnstone Mung’au, who is currently unavailable due to a family commitment. According to Weru, Abukuse’s presence in the team will provide a boost to the backline, offering added momentum and strength to that part of the squad.
“Abukuse is back, so that gives us a bit of impetus in the back line. He replaces Johnstone Mung’au who is away on family commitment,” Weru told Oilers media.
Weru feels that the squad selected and the changes made in the team’s squad are going to grant them the results they want.
“We have selected aside that we feel is capable of giving us the results that we want. A few changes to the starting lineup. We have tried to freshen up the squad as well as giving opportunities to players who have not played. Coleman (Were) starts for the first time this season and so does Shitundo,” he added.

He added that Strathmore is a good side with skilled players who have always given them a hard time in their previous meetings. He admitted that the students would be a hard nut to crack.
“They (Strathmore) are a quality side, a side that has always given us a difficult time. They are quite good in terms of quality and we know they will give us a challenge, but we feel that we have worked hard in training to give ourselves an opportunity to win,” he added.
The coach is proud of the preparation they have made ahead of Kenya Cup round 3 and they are looking forward to the Strathmore’s challenge.
“I am very happy with the preparations we have had this week in terms of how we played and the areas we needed to improve. The big focus point has been on improvement and how we want to play. I think our defense was positive last week against Mwamba, we still feel there are areas we can improve but we are looking forward to the Strathmore challenge,” he added.
