After a successful day one round robin games in Nakuru, the Likoni Rugby women’s team find themselves on the verge of making history by qualifying for their maiden top tier Kenya Cup Women’s league after registering a 100% win record on their opening two games.
Likoni who also doubles as Rongo University after the institution merged with the coastal-based outfit saw off Western region side Shamberere 10-05 in their opening fixture before sealing the day with a convising 25-00 win over NYS spades.
In other matches played, Shamberere bounced back with a 25-03 win against NYS Spades.
In today’s fixture,
Rongo University/Likoni will take on Kenyatta University,a win for Likoni will guarantee them a tabletop finish and automatic qualification to the Kenya Cup, however, should they finish second they’ll still be promoted.
Kenyatta University will later on take NYS spades before winding up the day’s business with Shamberere.
The win saw Likoni gaffer Gem Denis a thankful tactician, crediting the institution where the girls take their studies.
“Likoni, Rongo, are all the same, Because our girls are students at Rongo, the school is proud and says it’s their team. And also for Coast and Likoni, we say Likoni. We also want to mention St Joseph Girls Kitale cos that’s where our girls study on Scholarship” Dennis Gem said.
Two teams will earn promotion to join Impala, Mwamba, Western Spears,Nakuru, Suburbs and Maseno to make an 8-team league.
