Amon Wamalwa, one of Kenya’s rugby prodigies, has officially bid farewell to Homeboyz Rugby Club and joined Kenya Harlequins Rugby.
The announcement marks the end of an incredible 8-year journey for Wamalwa with Homeboyz, a club he bid goodbye to at the end of the season. He moves to Quins after his 2022 move failed through.
Amon Wamalwa gratitude
An emotional Wamalwa in an interview with Scrummage Africa took a moment to express his deep heartfelt gratitude to his former team for their unwavering support and guidance throughout his development as a player.
“My stay at Homeboyz has been great and amazing, creating memories which will last forever, and winning a lot of titles, above all, Homeboyz has made me who I am today, I am immensely grateful for the opportunities they have given me, the trust they have placed in me, and the invaluable lessons I have learned along the way,” he said
“The decision was not an easy one to make (leaving Hbr) it has been my home away from home, it’s my second family, and I will forever be a homeboyz,” he added.
Wamalwa’s departure from Homeboyz Rugby comes as a significant milestone for both the player and the club. Having joined the team as a young and promising talent, Wamalwa flourished under the mentorship of experienced players and admitting his immediate former tacticians Paul Murunga and Simon Odongo who currently are at quins propelled his move.
“It was their plan, they know my playing style and I understand how they want to play, it was easy to consider the decision to join Quins,” elated Amon said.
Nurturing environment for Amon Wamalwa
The nurturing environment provided by Homeboyz allowed him to hone his skills, grow as an athlete, and make a name for himself in the rugby world.
However, Wamalwa recognized that growth often requires stepping out of one’s comfort zone and embracing new challenges.
“It’s a great feeling joining Quins, I feel excited, challenged and safe at the same time, am looking forward to helping them get back to their glory days and enjoy my stay at Quins,” he said.
The move to Quins Rugby signifies a fresh start for Wamalwa, who aims to continue his upward trajectory in the sport. Wamalwa’s move to Quins Rugby is expected to inject renewed energy into his career and propel him, he joins his former teammates Arnold Onzere, and Richel Wangila.
