Kenya 7s suffered a disappointing loss 33-7 to Canada in their final group stage match at the Toulouse 7s, dropping them to the Challenge Trophy and ending their slim hopes of reaching the quarterfinals.

Needing a big win to keep their quarterfinal hopes alive, Kenya 7s struggled to match their opponents and managed just one try.

Kenya 7s can only pick nine

The loss means that the maximum points Kenya 7s can pick up this weekend is nine. As a result, Kenya 7s will finish behind Uruguay and Spain, and it’s now clear that they are headed for the relegation playoff next weekend.

However, they will have another chance to redeem themselves in the relegation playoff, where they will face tough opposition as they fight to maintain their core status on the World Rugby Sevens Series circuit.

Canada capitalized on their opportunities in the match. In the opening minutes of the match, a scrum was won by Canada, they attacked the shorter side to score the opening try of the match through Max Stewart.

With a minute left to play in the first half, Kenya 7s responded with a try from Daniel Taabu, who fended off Stewart and crossed the line. Taabu converted the try for a 7-5 lead, but unfortunately, Kenya couldn’t take a lead into the break.

Just before the halftime whistle, Canada had a break and scored a crucial try through Thomas Isherwood, giving them a 12-7 lead going into the second half.

The second half proved to be disastrous for Kenya 7s, as they struggled to regain momentum and found themselves conceding another try after David Richard collected his own grabber kick to score a converted try.

With a comfortable lead, Canada continued to control the game and added two more tries through Matt Oworu and Josiah Morra to seal a comprehensive 33-7 victory over Kenya 7s.
