Nondies and Kisumu RFC have earned their promotion back to the Kenya Cup after winning their respective KRU Championship semi-final matches, replacing MMUST and Mean Machine, who were relegated from the top tier at the end of the season.
In the semi-finals played at Ngong Race Course, Nondies impressively ended South Pirates’ journey to the top tier with a 39-10 win. The Rangers dominated the first half, with Collins Odiwour scoring the opening try, which was converted by Tony Fidens. Pirates pulled back with a penalty from Joseph Musyoka, but Brian Amaitsa soon landed the second try for Nondies.
Pirates once again reduced the deficit after Iddi Ganguma scored their first try, which was converted, bringing the scoreline to 12-10. However, Nondies’ captain, Steve Odhiambo, scored two converted tries, giving his team a comfortable 22-10 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Fidens scored another try for Nondies, which was converted, extending their lead to 29-10. Charles Omondi and Victor Rogena also scored tries for Nondies, bringing the final score to 39-10.
Meanwhile, at Madaraka Grounds, Kisumu RFC secured a 19-7 victory against Daystar.
